Spiritual and Secular Death as Part of Tradition and Modernity “Karpuz Kabuğundan Gemiler Yapmak” (Making Ships From Watermelon Shell) and “Paramparça” (Shattered) Films.Tarık Güvendi̇ - 2023 - Dini Araştırmalar 26 (64):207-240.
Gravestones and inscription stones, which are among the oldest indicators of the phenomenon of death engraved in the public memory with images and rituals, are the ancient interpreters of the consciousness of death, which is the redemption of human beings as conscious beings. The phenomenon of death or dying, which was domesticated through a natural spirituality in antiquity, and a monotheistic religiosity in the Middle Ages, loses its spirituality by becoming profaned in the hands of consumer culture and is brutalized (...)

    A Sunni & Shiite Synthetic Approach to The Imamate Problem: Shamsaddin as-Samarqandī's Political View.Tarık Tanribi̇li̇r - 2023 - Kader 21 (1):199-224.
One of the problems regarding one of the breaking points in the history of Islamic thought is the presidency. Muslims did not only fall into a theoretical conflict on this issue, but unfortunately, they also engaged in actual battles. The disagreement among Muslims has retained its influence to the present day and has shaped both the religious and worldly views of Muslims. The debate on the identity of the candidate who will assume the role of Muhammad and organize the religious (...)

Proof of the Prophethood of the Prophet Muhammad in the Context of the Bible in Shamsuddīn Al-Samarqandī.Tarık Tanribi̇li̇r & Esra Hergüner - 2020 - Kader 18 (2):617-641.
Since the beginning of human history, there has been no society that did not have any religion. Man meets his need to believe, encoded in his nature by turning to God. God has not left humans alone in their journey on earth, and from time to time, He has intervened in the world through his prophets. The prophethood, which constitutes one of the main subjects of theology, is an important institution in God-human communication. The messengers chosen by God convey to (...)

The Suggestion of a Reconciliatory Concept in The Relation of Ontology-Epistemology: The Hypothetical Existential Essence in Shams al-dīn al-Samarqandī.Tarık Tanribi̇li̇r - 2021 - Kader 19 (2):583-599.
The Shams al-dīn al-Samarqandī who is the first scholar to adopt the method of the philosophical theology in the Hanafī-Māturīdī tradition, is an important Turkish-Islamic thinker who has proven himself in rational and transmitted sciences by giving works in various fields such as theology, logic, mathematics, astronomy, tafsir, ādāb al-bahth wa al-munāzara. Placing the science of logic at the center of his system, al-Samarqandī analyzed every opinion and evidence put forward logically and aimed to reach the truth. Divine attributes, the (...)

Bir yandan modernizmin metafiziği semaya hapseden katı nesnelliği, dinin büyüsünü bozan araçsal aklı, titanlaştırılan bilimsel teknolojisi ve modernitenin bir sonucu olan kapitalizmin normatif baskısı; diğer yandan kültürel koşullanmanın ve tarihsel tecrübenin postmodern dayatmasında her bir öznenin kendi yorumuna pay edilerek parçalanmış hakikat iddiaları ve üst dilin reddiyle öznenin kutsal metni beşere indirgemesi karşısında dini sosyal teşekküller, siyasi, toplumsal ve sosyo psikolojik zeminde kimi zaman uhrevi kimi zaman da dünyevi pozisyonlar almaktadırlar. Games of Incomplete Information Without Common Knowledge Priors.József Sákovics - 2001 - Theory and Decision 50 (4):347-366.
We relax the assumption that priors are common knowledge, in the standard model of games of incomplete information. We make the realistic assumption that the players are boundedly rational: they base their actions on finite-order belief hierarchies. When the different layers of beliefs are independent of each other, we can retain Harsányi's type-space, and we can define straightforward generalizations of Bayesian Nash Equilibrium and Rationalizability in our context. Since neither of these concepts is quite satisfactory, we propose a hybrid concept, (...)

On the role of frame-based knowledge in lexical representation.József Andor - 2003 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 26 (6):667-668.
In this commentary I discuss the role of types of knowledge and conceptual structures in lexical representation, revealing the explanatory potential of frame-based knowledge. Although frame-based lexical semantics is not alien to the theoretical model outlined in Jackendoff's conceptual semantics, testing its relevance to the analysis of the lexical evidence presented in his book has been left out of consideration.

  30. The concept of health and disease.József Kovács - 1998 - Medicine, Health Care and Philosophy 1 (1):31-39.
Examining the naturalist and normativist concepts of health and disease this article starts with analysing the view of C. Boorse. It rejects Boorse's account of health as species-typical functioning, giving a critique of his view based on evolutionary theory of contemporary biology. Then it gives a short overview of the normativist theories of health, which can be objectivist and subjectivist theories. Rejecting the objectivist theories as philosophically untenable, it turns to the subjectivist theories of Gert and Culver, and to the (...)

When is enough enough? The integration of competing scientific agendas.Jozsef A. Toth - 2002 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 25 (2):212-213.
This commentary asks the reader to examine Pylyshyn's target article and the imagery debate at four levels of analysis – institutional, programmatic, empirical, and individual. It is proposed that the debate follows somewhat generic patterns of discourse at all four levels, but the discourse associated with one side of the debate may or may not be expressible and evaluated in terms of the other. The different sides of the debate might better serve cognitive science if they proceed as separate research (...)

Honorary authorship epidemic in scholarly publications? How the current use of citation-based evaluative metrics make (pseudo)honorary authors from honest contributors of every multi-author article.Jozsef Kovacs - 2013 - Journal of Medical Ethics 39 (8):509-512.
The current use of citation-based metrics to evaluate the research output of individual researchers is highly discriminatory because they are uniformly applied to authors of single-author articles as well as contributors of multi-author papers. In the latter case, these quantitative measures are counted, as if each contributor were the single author of the full article. In this way, each and every contributor is assigned the full impact-factor score and all the citations that the article has received. This has a multiplication (...)

Honorary authorship and symbolic violence.Jozsef Kovacs - 2017 - Medicine, Health Care and Philosophy 20 (1):51-59.
This paper invokes the conceptual framework of Bourdieu to analyse the mechanisms, which help to maintain inappropriate authorship practices and the functions these practices may serve. Bourdieu’s social theory with its emphasis on mechanisms of domination can be applied to the academic field, too, where competition is omnipresent, control mechanisms of authorship are loose, and the result of performance assessment can be a matter of symbolic life and death for the researchers. This results in a problem of game-theoretic nature, where (...)

The Role of Bódog Somló in the Revival of Hungarian Legal Philosophy.József Szabadfalvi - 2007 - Archiv für Rechts- und Sozialphilosophie 93 (4):540-550.
Bódog (Felix) Somló is the most reputable representative of Hungarian legal philosophy at the last turn of the century, whose ouevre greatly contributed to the establishment of the neo-Kantian legal philosophy, the dominant trend preaviling in Central Europe at the time, a development that eventually resulted in modernising the legal scholarship and theoretical thought in law in Hungary. Hungarian jurisprudence can be proud of the fact that Bódog Somló, besides Rudolf Stammler, Gustav Radbruch, Hans Kelsen and Alfred Verdross is regarded (...)
